PS2, How I’ve Missed You

Almost 12 but still going strong

The Playstation 2 might be 11 years old, but it still holds a very special place in my heart! I equate it to staying up late playing RPGs, arguing with my brother as to whose turn it is to play, and repeated resets while trying to run malfunctioning backup discs. ^^ And now I can relive the memories again, thanks to my brother’s girlfriend who lent me her console!

I can finally play all the games that I’ve overlooked, ‘coz being a student back then meant not having enough money and time. Then again, I won’t have a lot of time once uni starts – oh well…

Still Alive

Just a quick post to say I’m still here. I’ve been really lazy at turning on my computer when I get home, so in turn my blog updates have been suffering as well.

What’s happened since my last post?

  • My cats turned three years old! ^_^ I took some pictures of them during their birthday – I’ll get around to posting them soon…
  • I had my hair coloured, but it wasn’t drastic enough so no one really noticed -_-
  • My cousin went back to Phils… but she’ll be back in two weeks.
  • I’ve been reading tons of manga. Yes, it’s the reason why I haven’t been updating. It’s just so easy to get on the iPad after a hard day’s work. That reminds me, I should really do a manga review soon.

Foundation Rejects

Disclaimer: In no way am I saying that these foundations are bad! They might work for you, but they didn’t work for me, that’s why they are in this list.

They say by the time you’re 25 you should already know what cosmetics work for you. Well I’m sorry, but I only started putting on makeup two years ago so I’m still finding my way around this beauty jungle!

I’ve had a few mistakes in my quest to find the perfect foundation and here are my has-beens.

  • Missha M Signature Real Complete BB Cream + BB Boomer – This used to be my old foundation, before I discovered MAC Studio Fix. I really liked this but I had a tendency to slather it on my blemishes –_- Also, it makes my face shiny whereas I need it to be matte instead.
  • The Face Shop Clean Face Oil Free BB Cream – Never really used it that much as it had very little coverage. It was mostly a tinted moisturiser.
  • Skin Food Agave Cactus BB Cream – Same as the The Face Shop one. It would be perfect for people had good skin, but not me.
  • Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Liquid Foundation – My very first department store foundation :D I never knew if it helped my acne at all because I found out (the hard way) that it made me look orangey!
  • Revlon ColorStay Liquid Foundation Combination/Oily Skin (not pictured) – My first liquid foundation. If only I could find the right shade match. I think the one I got before was too light for me.

Like I said in my previous post, I’m moving to mineral makeup. It’ll be harder and messier to apply than a powder compact, but I owe it to my face!

What’s Inside My Makeup Bag

Another beauty-related post! I’m on a roll XD

This isn’t really that interesting but I just wanted to post about my current makeup system. I used to take so long putting makeup on but I’ve found that it really helps to have a good foundation. That way blemishes are covered up more quickly. :)

Let’s Talk About Skin Care

My apologies for turning this place into a fashion and beauty blog :) I was inspired by my sister’s beauty essentials post, so I hope you don’t mind me sharing some stuff about my skincare routine (and bad pictures of myself!)

My Problematic Skin

I wasn’t blessed with great skin :( Even my boyfriend has better skin than me! He hardly gets pimples while I break out every few days. It’s annoying but it’s something I’ve had to deal with since high school. And I was lazy and didn’t (and still don’t, sometimes!) really have great habits with regards to keeping my face dirt-free. In fact, I think I have the worst… Not washing my face before going to bed (when I feel lazy!), scratching my face, picking at pimples, and not going to sleep early. So yeah, it’s no wonder I don’t have the clear, smooth skin when I don’t really work at it…

Aside from constantly breaking out, I also have these weird dark circles under my eyes. It’s kind of my defining feature now. Before I thought it was caused by me not sleeping early. But those kind of dark circles disappear after a good night’s sleep. Mine have been with my since my high school days! And I assure you, between then and now, I have had a few hours of sleep :P These annoying dark circles are like a permanent tattoo and are one of the reasons why I put on a lot of makeup, in an attempt to (poorly) disguise them.

The Wonderful World of Steampunk

I promised a Steampunk introductory post, so here it is!

All aboard!

What is Steampunk?

Steampunk is a sub-genre of sci-fi, fantasy, alternate history, and speculative fiction. Just as the name implies, it involves a setting wherein steam is still relied on as the primary power source and is widely used. It’s usually set in 19th century Victorian England, but can also be in different nations, in the same era. The difference with steampunk is the ubiquity of futuristic gadgets and technology as Victorians would have envisioned them, such as gadgets being more mechanical rather than digital. More often than not, these technologies are anachronistic in form.

Steampunk Fashion Finds

This isn’t the Introduction to Steampunk Fashion I talked about here but I thought I’d just share some of my fashion finds related to it.

Totally Looks Like…

I watched the 2009 version of Sherlock Holmes again, mainly because I wanted to look at the Victorian era fashions for reference, for my recent Steampunk obsession. (More on that on a later post, I promise!)

Hello Kitty Makeup Brushes from Sephora

I’m a huge Hello Kitty fan (if I had the money, I’d be the wife from Hello Kitty Hell) and when I saw this, I thought I just had to have them! Never mind the fact that I don’t really use makeup brushes that much ^^;

It’s so cute! And in my favourite shade of pink, too!

$49 from Sephora.

(Thanks to my sister for showing me the link!)
