New Books For the Geek In Me

So Tech.Ed Australia 2008 has come and gone for me (technically it ends tomorrow, but I’m not going to any sessions now) I do wish I could have joined more sessions or tried out more of the labs, but I guess I’ve learned a lot already and I’m quite excited to use the new technologies I’ve been exposed to.

Computer books are one of my geeky obsessions, and I couldn’t stop myself from buying from the Microsoft Press booth. They had 30% off the books! Naturally, I got the ones which I was very interested in. I would have gotten another book (about ASP.NET 3.5) but it was too thick/heavy/expensive.

  1. I have to say LINQ is just awesome. I hated dealing with data before and i was always grateful for our “masterdatabater” in Kaye because i never wanted to deal with dealing with data before. But with LINQ it’s just pure joy, seriously.

  2. @Aimee: I haven’t actually gotten my head around it yet. Good to hear that it saves us from DB headaches - I never was a good “databater” :P I’m just really interested in not having to go through SQL Server Management Tool to make stored procedures and such. Here in our office we’re purely managing through making SPs by hand and that’s a real pain. I’ve heard LINQ has a built-in ORM (object-relational mapper) but I haven’t actually tried or tested it. I have a little website project on the side which I’m trying to build using all these nifty technologies but I still have a lot to learn!
